Ideas about education are changing in the United States. Education today is not just a high school or a college degree. Many adults are not interested in going to college. They are interested in other kinds of learning. For them, learning does not end with a degree.

Continuing education gives these adults the chance to increase their knowledge about their own field or to learn about a new field. It also gives them a chance to improve their old skills or to learn new ones.

Workers can take classes to improve their work skills. Nurses can take classes to increase their knowledge of nursing. If they know more or learn more, then they can get a better job or make more money.

Continuing education classes give some adults the chance to learn new skills. There are usually varieties of classes to choose from, typing, foreign cooking, photography, car repair, or swimming. These are only some of the classes available.

Some adults take classes for fun or because the class will be useful for them. For example, they can choose a class in almost any language, Chinese, Spanish or English as a second language. There are also many other kinds of classes to choose from.

Other adults take continuing education classes to improve their own lives because they want to feel better about themselves. Overweight people can find exercise classes or classes in cooking. Others can learn how to be good parents, or how to get along with other people.

There are many chances for adults to continue their learning. Almost any community college or public school system has a continuing education program. There are classes in schools, or community buildings. Most classes are in the evening, so working people can attend. The classes are usually small, and they are inexpensive.

Thousands of people attend continuing education classes each year. They receive no degree or certificate(证明), and no grade for most of the classes they attend. For them, learning is something they do because they want to.

Thousands of years ago, Chinese poet Qu Yuan (about 340–278 BC) wrote the poem Tianwen, meaning Quest for Heavenly Truth. He came up with a series(系列) of questions about the sky, stars, nature and the world around us. The poem showed his doubts about traditional ideas and the spirit of finding the truth.

Inspired by Qu Yuan, China has named its coming series of planetary exploration missions (行星探测任务) after the poem. The first one in the series – a Mars exploration mission—has been named Tianwen 1.This shows China’s wishes to explore the space and discover its secrets.

China has been making great progress in space exploration. The probe is expected to orbit (绕......轨道运行), land on and explore Mars in one mission. If it succeeds, it will be the first to complete all of these tasks in one mission. The Long March 5 rocket will send the probe to Mars. It will take seven months to reach the planet and land.

When you see flowers for sale, do you ever think of how they got from where they were grown? In most cases, they were grown in another country and imported to a big market in the Netherlands (荷兰),which sells 80 percent of the flowers and plants in the world. After they are traded there, they are exported again by plane all over the world. Eventually, they come to your town or city.

Since the 1500s Netherlands has been famous for growing and selling plants. In 1592,the first tulip (郁金香)bulb was imported to Netherlands from Turkey and tulips quickly caught on. As a matter of fact, some people struck it rich with tulips. Just one tulip bulb was worth as much as a house in Amsterdam!

These days the nation is still famous for its tulips and many other kinds of flowers as well. Many kinds of flowers are grown in greenhouses that are heated and lit so it's summer all year inside. In addition, millions of flowers arrive by plane every day at Amsterdam Airport. The center of the flower industry is the Aalsmeer Flower Auction located near the airport, about 16 kilometers from downtown Amsterdam. Every year, three billion flowers and 400 million plants are traded here. They come from 8,000 growers in places like Kenya, Ecuador and Indonesia. In an auction, buyers try to get the best flowers for the lowest prices so they can make a profit. At Aalsmeer, the prices start high and decrease. You have to watch out because it happens very quickly. The first person to press a button gets the plants at that price. As a rule, it only takes seconds to sell bunches of flowers, especially those in high demand. six hundred groups are sold each hour, so you have to decide what price you will payin a hurry. As soon as beautiful roses catch your eye, you must act. The next time you admire a bunch of roses, think about the adventure that the flowers have had. Where they came from may remain a mystery, but they almost certainly had a brief stop at Aalsmeer.

78. Which fact about greenhouses is true?

A. People sells flowers in them. B. Flowers can grow at a good temperature.

How to do a meaningful thing?

We're about to graduate and leave school soon.My classmates are discussing how to do a meaningful thing before leaving school.

Some students think we should buy a proper gift for our school and thank our teachers for helping and taking care of us.Others think we should buy pencils, pens, notebooks, schoolbags and some other school things to give them away the children in the poor areas.

I think we can also organize the students to help the old take care of their daily life, such as washing, cooking and doing housework,at the same time we can also sweep roads, clean streets so that our city will become more beautiful.

As students,we should thank those who help us.We should help those in need and do our part in our society.
