Suppose your university newspaper is inviting submissionsfrom students for its coming edition on a campus event that has impressed them most.
设想你大学的校刊正在为新一期内容向同学们征稿，内容是学生们印象最深的一次校园活动。
没想到这个submission让很多同学破防了，评论区也的好笑程度也达到了100%。
一些考生完全不认识这个词，把submission当成了一个人，开篇直呼“dear submission”，出考场反应过来之后把自己给气笑了：
还有些同学学到了，但是没完全学到。有些写成招聘新编辑，有人写成了邀请函……

四级试卷上的“submission”是指“投稿（contributions）”，取其“递交”的意思，而非“屈服”。
参考一下《牛津词典》的释义：
❶ the act of accepting that sb has defeated you and that you must obey them

❷ the act of giving a document, proposal, etc. to sb in authority so that they can study or consider it
向某人或者某机构上交文件、建议以便其考虑

四级试卷里说的是“大学校报邀请学生就某事投稿”，这个语境下的“submission”就是词典释义第二项所指。
在时政文本里，我们翻译“建言献策”也常用“submit”这个词：submit opinions and suggestions。
submission是submit的名词形式，首先它的意思是“屈服、投降”：
